Mentoring
Mentoring and youth work underpin everything Build A Skill does, guiding young people to grow, build confidence, and develop essential life and social skills.
Pro-Social Education and Mentoring
Chris brings over 11 years of youth engagement experience to Build A Skill, developing a distinctive approach where every question, action, and task can teach pro-social skills.
During sessions, practical activities may pause to address team dynamics, explore cause and effect, or engage in an epistemology exercise—a structured discussion about knowledge and beliefs. These exercises help participants reflect on why they think and act in certain ways, encouraging critical thinking and self-awareness. Discussions often also focus on behaviours that could be harmful, life skills, and personal development—all within a safe, non-judgmental space that encourages honest open dialogue.
In addition, each young person has the opportunity for one-to-one mentoring, providing time for goal-setting and discussion of individual challenges, helping them build confidence and plan for the future.
We offer 1-1 and small group mentoring in schools and out in the community in addition to the mobile workshop service. The mobile workshop syllabus also has a mentoring based philosophy.
