Mobile Workshop Programme

Being a mobile service allows Build A Skill to deliver a flexible, hands-on programme. Over a 12-week intervention, young people may begin on their school site, or—if not in education—at a local community or family centre.

After practising practical and social skills, building trust and setting boundaries, participants apply their learning in real-world settings, whether completing tasks on their school grounds, assisting at a community centre, or taking on small projects for the council.

The programme also includes site visits to local businesses and construction sites, providing experience days that bring the “world of work” to life. Participants may visit colleges to explore courses or spend a day organising the mobile workshop while discussing life and work skills—mirroring the responsibilities and teamwork they would experience on a job. Every activity is designed to build the life skills, confidence, and practical knowledge needed to be employable or even start their own business in the future.

The mobile workshop van is equipped with enough seats to take small groups (5 max) to site visits etc. tools and materials workbenches and gazebos to create a workshop anywhere! and of course an essential bit of kit, the humble kettle. tea and biscuits during a break are a staple of any tradespersons day! during this time any person can turn into a philosopher or mentor to a peer.
